Why I Offer My Handmade Tableware on Pre-order

Offering my handmade pieces on pre-order isn’t just about logistics, it’s a true philosophy.A thoughtful choice that allows me to create with intention, in respect of the material, my rhythm as a ceramicist… and yours. If you’ve ever wondered why some of my bowls or cups aren’t available right away, here are all the reasons, and the advantages it brings to you.

Made-to-order to Reduce Impact

One of the first reasons is simple: I work alone, in Paris, and storage is expensive, not only financially, but also in terms of space. By launching pre-orders, I produce only what is ordered:

  • no unnecessary surplus,

  • no pieces left sitting in a cupboard waiting to be sold,

  • no waste of materials or energy.

Each piece is thrown, dried, glazed and fired for someone who is already waiting for it, giving it intention and meaning from the start.

Craft Takes Time

When you place a pre-order for handmade tableware, you can expect a lead time of 6 to 9 weeks. That time is needed to honour every step of the process:

  • throwing on the wheel,

  • slow drying to prevent cracks,

  • first firing (bisque),

  • glazing,

  • second high-temperature firing.

Nothing can be rushed without compromising the quality. It’s also a way to slow down, and reconnect with a more respectful, more balanced rhythm of production.

A Pre-order, A Handmade Piece, A Fairer Price

With à la carte pre-orders, I can:

  • reduce my costs, because I don’t have to pay for unnecessary stock upfront,

  • avoid storage, which is a major saving in a city like Paris.

For new collections, I sometimes make a different choice: I keep a fair price, but occasionally accept a smaller margin as a way of thanking those who trust me with a new design. It also allows me to test new forms, glazes, and ideas, while building a more direct relationship with you.

🤝 A Committed Choice: Supporting Responsible Craft

Pre-ordering handmade ceramics is also a way to:

  • consume differently, by supporting an artisan rather than mass production,

  • take part in an ethical approach, respectful of resources,

  • encourage a mode of creation that values slowness and patience.

It’s a win-win exchange:You receive a piece made just for you, and I can work with peace of mind, aligning creativity, sustainability and economic viability.
